IS IT TOO HOT IN HERE OR IS IT JUST ME?

IS IT TOO HOT IN HERE OR IS IT JUST ME?

Posted by Ifat Pridan on

I never thought it would happen to me, I even used to make fun of my friend, but what can I say, karma is a bitch...

It can happen during an important interview, a romantic moment, while shopping, socializing, flying an airplane with 400 people on board, anytime. Out of the blue, I am on fire and it's coming from within, from head to toes. I can feel the sweat on the back of my neck, I know that my face is turning red, I have a feeling that I will never be able to take these rings off my fingers, I am grabbing whatever is next to me, a book, a menu, a plate, a hat and start waving it in front of my face. No warning, no time to prepare and I just have to deal with it. What am I going to say to the interviewer? Can you please five me a sec, I'm going to shove my head into the freezer and be right back with you? I am not sweating because I can't fly this airplane, but can we please open the cockpit window?

The chilling winters are suddenly a blessing. The summers are a nightmare. And there is always someone (never a woman!) who asks you how come you are not freezing cold in this short sleeves dress.

Sometimes in the middle of all this, and with all due respect to men, I can't help thinking "what do they know? What do they really know"? Our body is a roller coaster and we are just playing it cool, strong, put together. We are not less than them, if anything, so much more. We are dealing with life AND with menopause, there, I said it! And hot flashes are just the beginning. I feel like I deserve a standing ovation. Every day. Just for showing up!

It seems too lame to talk about fashion when we are on fire, but hey, what else are we going to do? Camp in the freezer? One of the things I love the most about LiLi The First is that it's so much more than a place to shop. It's a place to share, to laugh, to connect. And since this is something our First Ladies often talk about, I collected some good advice for women in our "condition":

  1. Layers, layers, layers. Always wear a piece of garment that you can peel off. A cardigan, a jacket, a scarf, a vest, a tank top.
  2. Natural and breathable fabrics will absorb the sweat, let the air in, dry it quickly and won't make it sticky.
  3. Not so tight! Keep some space between you and your fabric. If you are not the "flowy" style kind of gal, try to keep it a straight line.
  4. Dresses and tunics have less pressure points. If wearing pants or a skirt, an elastic waist is not just for old women. Some of our most attractive jumpsuits have an elastic waist.

We are here for you! Please feel free to share any other advice you might have for our First Ladies community.

xoxo, Ifat

  • Love you for talking about it, the struggle is real. Luckily mine are mostly at night but then my sleep is disrupted several times during the evening.

A key to success is a light diet, more fish and long walks plus heavy duty aerobics!
